Planting spring flowering bulbs
I love the seasonal gardening job of planting spring flowering bulbs. Having moved house and garden earlier this year means that these are the first of the new bulbs to go in the ground. Although the soil here is utterly gorgeous, friable and free-drainng I do take the precaution of adding horticultural grit to the bottom of the planting hole, just to ensure that the bulb isn’t going to rot off before it’s been able to push up through the soil. If you have a heavier clay based soil it’s a good idea to incorporate grit into the planting hole which you can nestle your bulbs onto, planting in clusters helps the bulbs support eachother and create great compositional groups among long term perennials. Here I’m planting the beautiful white Allium stipitatum ‘Mount Everest’ more details and plant care here: ‘https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/243759/allium-stipitatum-mount-everest/details
Happy gardening!
