It’s incredible how much the Calemagrostis have grown over the past two weeks. I know that the advice is to cut deciduous grasses in early March, but I just couldn’t bring myself to cut down the beautifully elegant biscuit coloured stems still standing. After enduring right through last autumn and winter, I was struggling to let the old stems go, to make space for the new fresh growth emerging.
Once the decision was made, it was clear to see that the grasses are ready to move on too and full of new healthy swords filling the crown. This is now one full year in this garden and I will wait a couple of years before I think about dividing and making more grass stock from it.
For about a month now and bearing in mind that we’re into the second week of April, the Scabious being in flower, came as a lovely surprise. They are fabulous little plants and have an enduring habit with lots of flowers across the season. Accompanied by a lovely little evergreen Stipa by the name of ‘Amethystina’.. charming by name and charming in nature.
This border is still very much in the making and I’m loving adding more grasses to this grassy border, facing south-west, it is saturated by the sun and currently that is in full supply thanks to the current jet stream being stuck over Scotland.
