Client brief:
My clients love the idea of a bespoke brick planter for their garden. The planter will be a lovely focal point from their kitchen window. The planting design would include plants for pollinators and perennial herbs for cooking.
Design response
After discussing brick choices for the bespoke garden planter, I prepared the design drawings. The idea behind the planter is to create more informal seating for visiting friends and family around the terrace. The sandstone walling bricks are characterful with their tumbled texture and combine well with the more contemporary grey coping stone. The devil is in the detail as they say and this eight-sided planter was no exception. Check out those beautifully mitred corners. The sandstone coping has benefited from sealing to protect the porous surface from food and drink stains.
The planting scheme includes spring flowering Alliums, evergreens for structure and herbaceous perennials. Bringing lots of life into view and especially the bees enjoying the chive flowers. When I visited in early June the brick planter was filling out well and the evergreens and herbaceous perennials putting on good growth. In time, this brick planter will be full of colour and texture as the plants continues to grow. Clients tell us that their grandchildren love running around the top of the planter. Happy days!
