Caldecote Green garden ~ Bedfordshire

Clients’ brief:

Create a garden that gave wildlife plenty of opportunity to feed and nest while creating an easy care garden for my clients to quietly enjoy. We restored a tired concrete patio by relocating it to the back of the garden to create easy access around the working parts of the garden, making composting and collecting rain water so much easier.

Time spent on plant research and planning really helped with the precision of the installation. The RHS gave excellent advice when removing the deep root suckers from the existing ornamental pear trees. A plastic membrane was vertically placed into a circular trench around each tree, to a depth of 650mm. We are very hopeful that the trees won’t be able to penetrate this membrane which will keep the new lawn looking good.

Our clients loved the idea of a wildflower meadow which we positioned in front of a neighbouring black barn, it just works perfectly! Thanks go to Wildflower Turf
for providing great advice and installation guidance. I designed bespoke brick planters with stone coping to compliment the house brick, combining old style charm with more contemporary materials. Steps with bullnose profiles always creates a softer, complimentary leading edge and combine beautifully here with sandstone walling bricks.
