Judi’s profile ~ A little background history.  When I was 10 years old I attended ballet classes in Walthamstow where I grew up. As a young adult, I studied contemporary dance at the London Contemporary Dance School and The Laban Centre. I went on to work as a choreographer in regional theatres and also taught contemporary dance in adult education. My dive into all things horticultural came about after redundancy from a corporate communications job, for a North London local authority some years later. My incredible neighbour at the time, determined to help me, offered me money in exchange for gardening in his much-loved garden. With gratitude, I became a professional gardener to make ends meet. I wanted to get my teeth into designing gardens, not just nurturing them. After studying planting and garden design at Capel Manor Horticultural College, I became a freelance garden designer.

I love creating movement and destination within a garden, I’m guessing that’s because of the influence of dance on my life. Imagine strolling across a garden path towards your garden retreat, sitting, listening and watching the nature around you. Just because you can. Joyful! Big or small, the same principles of good garden design apply. That’s my job, and I love it!

We have created beautifully abundant and bespoke gardens for clients across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire. We’re very excited here at JSGD HQ because we have decided to extend our reach to South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk. Design projects include new builds (blank canvas), family gardens, courtyard gardens, contemporary gardens, cottage gardens, and coastal gardens. A current design project includes a Japanese-influenced Zen garden as a garden retreat.

We love working with clients to bring their wishes for their gardens to life. We work in a collaborative style because our clients are our focus. As a professional and experienced garden designer, it’s important to work with BALI-registered landscaping companies. Ensuring my beautiful designs are accurately and skillfully created on the ground. I am passionate about designing beautiful outdoor spaces, that reflect my client’s wishes.  Animated garden design models bring the design concept to life.

Depending on your location and the project scale, a planning application may be required. We shall be happy to support you through this process.

Wishing you a healthy and beautifully abundant garden in 2025!
