Client brief

Clients asked me to create a cohesive garden design for their sloping site. The good sized garden was mostly laid to lawn with no real access to a paved area, which meant the garden didn’t engage the family and now the children had grown, the garden could become more of an entertaining and relaxing space for friends and family to share. The garden design was a response to my client’s wish for a design that flowed through the garden with clean lines. As the garden sits on a sloping site, retention played an important part in the thinking behind the design.

Landscape timbers were used to construct large format planters that also act as walling to retain the sloping garden. Changing levels were created by making timber-framed terracing which were infilled with new turf to keep the garden looking green. A pre-formed water feature combined with caledonian pebbles and boulders created a really lovely focal point in the garden. The sound of trickling water is captivating and all thanks to the solar panels providing energy to the pump skillfully hidden.
