Client brief:
A stunning Norfolk coast inspired garden design brings a low-maintenance garden retreat to life. The planting scheme throughout is designed with evergreens and natural coastal elements. My clients want a peaceful sanctuary, so I created a circular seating area with a swing seat for relaxation. Tall, slender Italian evergreens (Cupressus sempervirens pyramidalis) provide partial seclusion, enhancing the sense of escape and intimacy.
Timber uprights, carefully placed throughout the design, mimic Norfolk’s sea groynes and reinforce the strong coastal theme my clients love. Flowing curves in the bullnose step running across the garden, reflect the coastline’s natural shape, softening the split-level garden. A circular sandstone paving kit defines the hidden seating area, offering a warm, sunny spot for contemplation and privacy.
My clients are deeply connected to their outdoor space and want a design that blends form, function, and personal meaning. Inspired by their home’s architectural style and cherished coastal visits, I designed a garden that reflects their lifestyle. The space needed to be a sanctuary, a place for play, and a natural retreat that evokes peace.
Behind the gravel garden, I created a small evergreen woodland framed by pines, adding texture and year-round interest. Two fallen tree trunks symbolize my clients’ deep bond and their appreciation of nature’s raw beauty. Low-maintenance planting ensures lasting appeal with minimal upkeep, allowing the garden to thrive effortlessly.
The thoughtful combination of evergreens, timber elements, and natural materials creates a timeless outdoor space that feels both structured and organic. This project seamlessly integrates design and nature, delivering a tranquil escape inspired by Norfolk’s breathtaking coastline. The final result is a harmonious, low-maintenance sanctuary where my clients can relax, reflect, and connect with their very own landscape.
