Client brief:

Planting design was the focus of my client’s brief because the hard-standing elements were already in place. The garden needed an over-arching planting scheme to compliment the beautiful porcelain paving on the terrace and pathway. I used a broad colour palette because my clients love to have lots of bright, vivid colours in the garden. I added steel lawn edging strips to complete the contemporary finish and retain the soil beds. It is always a good idea to incorporate any existing trees in a garden design especially if healthy and loved. I recommended some remedial pruning and care of the three existing fruit trees, to encourage longevity.

Privacy is often a factor considered during the design concept phase and especially important in town and city gardens. The mahogany coloured bark of Prunus serrula ‘Tibetica’ is a magnificent tree with cinnamon coloured peeling bark. The planting design included lots of beautiful tactile plants with texture and plants that will bring colour across the seasons. Ornamental grasses planted near the path not only soften the edges but invite a welcomed stroke as you pass by. We planted some very beautiful ornamental trees, not only attractive to wildlife but beautiful in all seasons. My clients are enjoying looking at the Tibetan cherry tree as we planted it in view from the tri-fold kitchen doors at the back of the house.
