About Judi Samuels
When I was 10 years old I started ballet classes in Walthamstow, where I grew up. Later, I studied contemporary dance at The Laban Centre and the London Contemporary Dance School. I went on to work as a freelance choreographer in regional theatres and teach contemporary dance classes in adult education.
Years later, after redundancy from a corporate communications job with a North London local authority, I needed a new direction. Fortunately, my generous neighbour offered to pay me for gardening in his cherished garden. Grateful for the opportunity, I became a professional gardener to support myself. However, I wanted to do more than maintain gardens—I wanted to design them. So, I studied planting and garden design at Capel Manor Horticultural College and became a freelance garden designer.
My approach to garden design
Because of my background in dance, I love creating movement and purpose in a garden. Becoming a garden designer makes every day a school day and I do love the learning. Every garden and design response is unique. Imagine strolling along a path, arriving at a peaceful retreat, and enjoying the sounds of nature. Whether the garden is large or more modest great garden design follows the same principles. I bring these principles to life, ensuring every garden has a natural flow and a sense of destination.
For ten years we have designed stunning, bespoke gardens across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire. Now, we are thrilled to expand into South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk. Our projects include new-build gardens, family spaces, contemporary landscapes, cottage gardens, and coastal retreats. Most recently, we designed a Japanese-inspired Zen garden, offering tranquillity within a gravel garden.
Collaboration & expertise
We work closely with clients, ensuring their vision comes to life. To maintain high standards, we collaborate with BALI-registered landscapers who skillfully execute each design. Additionally, animated garden models help clients visualise their future spaces before construction begins.
If your project requires planning approval, we will gladly support you. We collaborate with architects, land surveyors, structural engineers and landscaping teams. Together we will create a beautiful, functional garden.
