Clients decided it’s time for a garden makeover for their small courtyard garden in Baldock, Hertfordshire. I love working closely with clients to create beautiful new planting schemes. Out with the old and in with the new because clients are pleased to remove the old overgrown evergreen shrubs.
The planting style is gracefully understated, showcasing the elegance of white roses and the intoxicating fragrance of Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote‘.
The garden’s floral palette features a subtle blend of white, pink, and purple. All held together by the embrace of the garden wall. We planted Clematis alpina ‘Frances Rivis’; with its delicate bell-shaped flowers to be enjoyed from early spring. We are also providing a remedial pruning service to reduce an overgrown Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). Once a sprawling giant languishing over the top of the wall, it is now rejuvenated by our hard prune.
I suggested planting an Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ into a large square planter, adding drama to this cosy courtyard. My clients were unsure about the scale of it at first, but are now delighted by it in their newly planted garden. Go big, scale up and have fun creating dynamic planting in your garden!
