Client brief:
A garden designer near me was how my clients in Letchworth Garden City found me in a local community group. Having lovingly tended their garden for many years, they want a planting scheme to enhance seasonal interest. They invited me to transform their space by designing a planting plan that added color, texture, and structure throughout the year. The existing perennial scheme needed a boost, so we introduced evergreens that provided winter interest and contrast against the herbaceous planting.
We framed a Zen garden feature with Phyllostachys nigra, whose striking black stems created a stunning backdrop while adding movement and sound. A gentle breeze rustling through the bamboo enhanced the sensory experience, making this part of the garden peaceful and immersive. Alongside the planting scheme, we made subtle design tweaks that transformed the space into a tranquil Zen-inspired retreat for relaxation.
Positioning a circular stone-mounted water feature with a Buddha statue created a striking focal point within this serene garden sanctuary. To enhance the atmosphere, we painted the fencing deep grey, which provided a dramatic backdrop for plants and architectural garden elements.
A curved bench behind the Zen garden feature provided the perfect seating area, blending seamlessly with the overall tranquil design. This inviting space allows my clients to sit comfortably, enjoying moments of peace while looking back toward the house.
By refining the planting by adding new perennial plant stock and tweaking the existing layout, we created a garden that feels balanced, immersive, and engaging throughout all seasons.
