Client brief:

Clients left a large family home, which they lived in for many years and now find its time to downsize. After renovations to the house are completed, this new-build garden has come into view. Clients are very experienced gardeners and knew they wanted to enjoy the garden by gardening in it. They also wanted a place to sit and enjoy some shade in the summer months. A gazebo is on the list of ‘must-haves’ and we prepared design drawings to include a gazebo for the hottest part of the garden. It will be lovely to sit in the garden in the heat of the sun protected by a gazebo.

The garden is almost a blank canvas but with an existing greenhouse because clients enjoy growing vegetables and growing-on young plants. The existing shed and plum tree are going to be retained within the new garden design too. The garden is surrounded by large coniferous trees so they felt adding more trees wasn’t important to them. The planting design is floriferous, full of summer flowering perennials. We have designed a beautiful gravel garden with plants that will thrive in a dry garden.

Clients wanted to keep a good proportion of the existing lawn for their dog to enjoy and use. We discussed the idea of a circular lawn being suitable for this corner plot and clients instantly loved the idea. Framing the lawn with blue engineering bricks not only looks great but has a practical purpose too. Having a mowing strip around the lawn helps navigate the lawn mower to keep the mower away from sandstone paving. Using blue engineering bricks creates a bold definition between lawn and planting.

The timber Forest Burford Gazebo gives the garden a destination from the house and of course, is a great place to retreat and shelter from sun or rain. We all love the combination of lavender and grasses around the gazebo to give clients lovely lavender within reach of its perfume with tactile ornamental grasses to create softness around the timber edges.

Delighted with clients telling us they love their transformed garden.
