Royston family garden ~ a current installation project
Clients’ brief:
My clients wanted their garden to expand as it had been overgrown for some time. Working with a modest budget we discussed design ideas that would enhance their enjoyment of the space. Giving them more time to cook BBQs and enjoy being outside in a calm and spacious garden. I divided the space into two distinct areas with a gravel and timber pathway leading down to the porcelain terrace, retained with a beautiful timber wall. A beautiful design detail that helps frame the space and create a sense of being away from the main part of the garden, a place to sit, dine and relax. The upright landscape timbers have been placed with decreasing height across the space, which soften their impact.
Ornamental grasses will flank the front of the timber walling adding a lovely light, tactile feel. The level change is framed by a timber arch which adds to the sense of walking into a different space, once adorned with scented climbers it will become a thing of beauty. Copper beach hedging will add great habitat for local wildlife and will be planting as bare root stock in November. A beautiful Tibetan cherry tree will provide much needed dappled shade to be planted in the west-facing side of the garden.
