Planting plan.

A light touch in the garden is a phrase I often use to show clients that their wishes come first. I don’t impose a heavy hand or force a rigid vision. Instead, I listen closely to how they want their garden to feel, function, and grow. I guide gently, enhancing the space while keeping their priorities at the heart of every decision.

I recently re-worked a mature garden for clients who love their space but want a fresh vision. I started by listing all the plants and checking their health. The garden was full of entangled stems, some thriving, some past their prime. I carefully separated the ‘keepers’ from those that needed to exit stage right.

Next, I created planting plans for each of the planting areas. Keeping the healthiest and most treasured plants, combining them with new border buddies. Creating beautiful garden borders that will continue to evolve over time, revealing increased interest across the seasons.

When the gardeners start clearing and re-planting, everything will come together just in time for spring growth. By summer, the borders will be greatly improved, more cohesive and full of texture and colours, with shrubs leading the way into autumn with sensational leaf colour and vibrant coloured berries to endure through the winter months.

A light touch doesn’t mean doing less ~ it means doing what matters most by listening.
